Crimping Hair

Crimping hair is a quick way to create a lot of volume and texture within the hair.

To crimp hair you will need:

Hair Crimp tool
Hairbrush
Comb
Sectioning clips

Note: Hair crimps can become extremely hot, be careful not to burn the models face or scalp.

If the hair you are working on is colour or heat damaged or is very dry, use a lower heat setting or do not crimp the hair at all as crimping hair causes damage to the hair and may cause the hair to break.

When crimping hair I followed the following procedure.

1. Do a quick consultation, is the hair appropriate for the styling?

2.     Set the crimpers to the appropriate heat setting, in this practical I set it to heat setting 25 on the babyliss crimpers.
3.     Wait until the crimpers are hot
4.     Section hair
5.     Start crimping the lowest section of hair, working upwards.
6.     Hold the crimps for around 10s on the hair before moving on to the next section of hair. For weaker crimps, hold it for a shorter amount of time.
7.     When you have completed crimping hair, style accordingly.
